Hm... as first you should blend the clay so it gives the feeling of smooth skin. A-and, I can't see really but the neck may be too thin.
About the tutorial... Dunno, I think that pictures would be more helpful than a text. (though I didn't read it)
I'm working on a tutorial at the moment, but I'm using a different clay, so I dunno if it would help you in any way.

:) Good luck

I'm still working on the neck, and I do have a pretty hard time with smothing the clay. The face I'm sanding, adding clay, baking, over and over again. The tutorial does have a lot of pictures actually, and the maker of the tutorial is here on dA, so I can ask her questions.

You're making a tutorial? That's great! Do you have any finished dolls? And what clay?

BJDs are luv!
Well, I'm living in Europe, Hungary so I never seen super sculpey. I use (usually) white modeling paste from efa plast, it's more like the natural clay, but not as fragile and easier to handle. (blends with water, dries on air)
I have one finished doll and one under progress. Actually I'll finish the second tomorrow, or at least I'm planning to. I'll post some pictures when both are ready and dressed in pretty clothes.
The tutorial... well that isn't that easy. I'm making it with my sister, it's a video, but the camera died when I was sculpting the torso, but we've got (almost) the whole process of making the head on tape. Probably we'll make later, in the summer brake a tutorial about a whole doll. (final exams and all...)

Oh, cool! Are they cast in resin? I'm going to cast mine in resin, before I check, do you have anything of your finished doll in your gallery? Is the tutorial going to be on youtube?

Yes, after the editing work the tutorial will be posted on the net. But if I'm right then deviant art accepts videos to.

No, they aren't cast, they are clay sculpts... I don't feel enough confident and rich to do such thing. May be after a summer of sculpting I'll try. I feel I have to practice more, a lot more do be able to do something worth casting. (creepy joints, instabil poses...)

Any way, by to night there should be some pictures of them. The second doll is drying at the moment, and waiting for hands and a wig. So... I guess I go and finish up (: Check out my gallery in a few hours, or tomorrow, I hope you'll like them.

Are they out of LaDoll clay? It just takes lots of sanding to get a good finish for a cast! Are you making wigs for them, too?

Nope, it's efa plast classic, the most common in Europe. I really like it, and recommend it if it's available where you live.
Wings? Well, dunno, I'd like to stay pretty simple with the first ones, later may be, or even definitely.

I've posted some pictures! Yay, finally. Tomorrow I'll upload some more if I have the time. I have my final exams in a week...

We don't have that here, we do have lots of resin, though!

I meant wigs, I heard you can make them out of faux hair.

How long did it take you for your dolls?

--
BJDs are luv!
oh, yes, I've made both of the wigs. Though these aren't removable, I've glued them on there heads...

Hm.. like 3 or 4 days. But I worked on them almost 24hs a day. Only slept and ate other wise sculpted, sanded, crafted...
